김수민은 물리적 세계가 디지털 데이터로 변환되는 과정을 중심으로, 그 안에서 필연적으로 발생하는 '재현의 실패'를 탐구한다. 위성지도와 디지털 모델링, 아카이브 같은
복제의 기술을 관찰하며, 변환의 층위마다 압축되고 누락되고 잘려 나가는 것들을 영상과 설치, 오디오비주얼 퍼포먼스로 옮긴다. 그는 재현의 실패를 통해 끊임없이 붕괴하고
변형되는 실체의 감각을 추적하며, 데이터로 환원되지 않는 세계에 대한 관점을 구축한다.
김수민은 PRECTXE, AVLA, New Music in Jeju 등에서 오디오비주얼 퍼포먼스를 선보였으며, 개인전 《시선과 불확실》(2022), 《음악으로
건축하기》(2023)를 열었다. 아르코미술관, 로테르담 국제영화제(IFFR), 싱가포르 국제영화제 등의 프로젝트에 인터랙티브 시스템 설계와 기술 자문으로 협업했고,
2026년 아트코리아랩에서 전시 《남겨진 감각들》을 기획하고 참여 작가로 함께했다. 또한 중앙대학교, 성균관대학교 등 다수의 기관에서 강의와 워크숍을 진행하고 있다.
Sumin Kim explores the 'failure of representation' that inevitably arises as the physical world is converted into digital data. Observing technologies of replication — satellite maps, digital modeling, archives — Kim translates what is compressed, omitted, and cut away at each layer of conversion into video, installation, and audiovisual performance. Through these failures, Kim traces the sense of substance that endlessly collapses and transforms, building a perspective on a world that cannot be reduced to data.
Kim has presented audiovisual performances at PRECTXE, AVLA, and New Music in Jeju, and held the solo exhibitions Gaze and Uncertainty (2022) and Architecture by Sound (2023). Kim has collaborated with ARKO Art Center, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), and Singapore International Film Festival on interactive systems and technical advising, and curated and participated in Lingering Sensations (Artkorea Lab, 2026). Kim also leads lectures and workshops at institutions including Chung-Ang University and Sungkyunkwan University.
