〈불완전한 복제 – 티베트〉는 특정한 장소를 기록하는 영상이면서 동시에, 기록이 결코 원본이 될 수 없다는 사실을 드러내는 작업이다. 우리는 오늘날 세계를 이미지로 이해하고, 데이터로 기억한다. 지도 서비스의 위성사진, 온라인에 축적된 풍경의 기록, 디지털 모델링 기술은 실제 장소를 ‘복제 가능한 대상’으로 만든다. 그러나 그 복제는 언제나 불완전하며, 정보가 많아질수록 오히려 원본의 감각은 더 멀어진다.
본 작업은 티베트라는 장소를 기반으로 수집된 시각 데이터들을 재구성하고, 이를 영상으로 다시 편집하는 과정을 통해 ‘기억의 재현’이 아니라 ‘재현의 실패’ 자체를 드러내고자 한다. 복제된 이미지들은 원본의 진실에 가까워지기보다, 시간과 압축, 누락과 오류를 통해 균열을 만든다. 그 균열은 단순한 기술적 결함이 아니라, 우리가 장소를 이해하는 방식 자체가 이미 불완전하다는 증거로 남는다.
이 영상에서 등장하는 장면들은 실제 풍경을 닮아 있지만, 동시에 낯설고 불안정하다. 표면은 부정확하게 겹쳐지고, 공간은 끊임없이 붕괴하며, 형태는 완성되지 않은 채 떠다닌다. 관객은 그 파편적인 공간을 따라가며, 하나의 장소를 보는 것이 아니라 장소에 대한 인식이 생성되고 붕괴되는 과정을 목격하게 된다.
〈불완전한 복제 – 티베트〉는 디지털 기술이 만들어내는 정교한 재현을 믿는 시대에, 오히려 그 재현이 가지는 결핍과 불완전함을 통해 원본의 감각을 다시 질문한다. 복제는 완전한 재현이 아니라, 끊임없이 변형되고 누락되는 흔적이며, 그 불완전함 속에서 우리는 데이터로 환원되지 않는 세계의 층위를 다시 상상하게 된다.

Incomplete Replication – Tibet is a video work that records a specific place while simultaneously revealing the fact that a record can never become the original. Today, we understand the world through images and remember it as data. Satellite photos from map services, landscape records accumulated online, and digital modeling technologies turn actual places into 'replicable objects.' However, such replication is always incomplete, and as information increases, the sense of the original becomes even more distant.
This work reconstructs visual data collected based on the location of Tibet and re-edits it into a video to reveal not the ‘representation of memory’ but the ‘failure of representation’ itself. The replicated images do not approach the truth of the original; instead, they create cracks through time, compression, omission, and error. These cracks remain not as simple technical defects, but as evidence that our very method of understanding place is incomplete.
The scenes appearing in this video resemble actual landscapes but are simultaneously unfamiliar and unstable. Surfaces overlap inaccurately, spaces constantly collapse, and forms float incomplete. The audience follows these fragmented spaces, witnessing not a single place, but the process of perception of a place being generated and collapsing.
Incomplete Replication – Tibet questions the sense of the original again through the deficiency and incompleteness of representation in an era that believes in the precise representation created by digital technology. Replication is not a complete representation but a trace that is constantly transformed and omitted, and within that incompleteness, we reimagine layers of the world that cannot be reduced to data.
